Since May 2026 I have consulted through SAIG at Virginia Tech. I have served roughly ten clients in formal collaborations, alongside recurring one-off consultations on study design and analysis, and my contributions are acknowledged in the publications that came out of them.
Water-quality measurement
With the Occoquan Watershed Monitoring Laboratory I analyze chemical concentrations in water samples and design experiments that quantify where measurement variability comes from.
Disease progression in calves
With a veterinary researcher I built time-to-event models that estimate when calves progress to disease requiring antibiotics, and identified additional diagnostics that predict pneumonia onset and progression.
Teaching
I developed a 2.5-hour short course on unsupervised learning methods. It is taught in both R and Python and offered through SAIG in person and online.
Semcac community needs assessment
From 2023 to 2024 I was the statistical consultant for Semcac, a community action agency serving seven Minnesota counties. I designed and administered a survey across all seven counties, combined the responses with American Community Survey data, and compared need against existing program coverage county by county to show where programs matched demand and where needs went unmet.
That work became Semcac’s 2024 Community Needs Assessment, a 100-page report I coauthored that helps set the organization’s strategy and resource allocation across a three-year planning cycle.
Someone has a question, the data is imperfect, and a decision is waiting on the answer.
